How do you make an accordion smile? Easy, you give that squeezebox a squeeze!
Squeezebox This or Accordion That…Do you see a squeezebox or an accordion?
You see, it’s all in how and where you play it. An accordion was just an accordion until it found its true roots in Acadiana. Forever entwined with our culture, it became the squeezebox, the pulse of Cajun and Creole music, a living emblem of our heritage.
Just as the squeezebox is rooted in our Cajun culture, water lilies emerge from the marsh, rising above it all while lifting beauty above the surface just as our communities rise after every storm. Their blooms and lily pads offer safe haven to some of our tiniest wildlife like the monarch butterflies which symbolize transformation, just as the accordion became the squeezebox. Ladybugs, symbols of healing, are said to bring luck and prosperity which are blessings our disappearing wetlands desperately need as they endure each hurricane season. Honey bees, the quiet strength at the core of nature tug the swirling music notes upward like golden ribbons on a breeze, carrying melodies sung for generations of our Cajun National Anthem, ‘Jole Blon’. May their song keep drifting on the Louisiana wind, a ribbon of sound that carries our roots, our resilience and our joy Into the hearts of all who listen.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
