Great herons are commonly found along the coastal areas of Louisiana wading in the shallow waters of its wetlands, marches and bayous. They are easily recognized by their stately size and display of blue grey plumage. While both partners share in the duties of incubation the male chooses the nesting site and presents the female with materials to build the nest in a way to constantly impress the female. Their nests are 3 three wide by 3 feet high, and are built high in trees to keep them safe from predators.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
