Pirates Alley Carriage

from $110.00

Since the birth of New Orleans, in 1718, visitors and locals alike have toured the city, by leisurely carriage ride, absorbing the beauty of the city vistas. The balconies that line the streets of New Orleans are draped in foliage covered iron laced that are timeless in beauty. This piece captures Pirates Alley as if you were walking towards Royal St. from Jackson Square. The decision you make when taking a step into the painting is if you keep walking or jump right on into that carriage. Pirates Alley is about 600 ft long and 16 ft wide, is not even shown on most of the French Quarter maps, but it's tall tails make it known to all. This cobble stone alley runs along side St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest continually operating church in the US. Today a cafe stands on the site of the former Spanish prison where the famous pirate, Jean Lafitte and later hero of the Battle of New Orleans, was once imprisoned. Tails of the pirate hangouts and secret meetings have long been associated with this alley while many duels where settled in St. Anthony's Garden located directly behind the cathedral.

(The 1.5” depth canvas works best for hanging without framing.) The giclee is signed on the front in silver, titled/labeled/signed on the back and comes with a signed letter of authenticity should it ever need appraisal.

CUSTOM FRAMING: Handmade floating frames created using reclaimed wood. Frames add an additional 3 inches to the overall width and height of giclee.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
