Pirates Alley

from $180.00

Pirates Alley, about 600 ft long, and 16 ft wide, is not even shown on most of the French Quarter maps, but it's tall tails make it known to all. This cobble stone alley runs along side St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest continually operating church in the US. Today a cafe stands on the site of the former Spanish prison where the famous pirate, Jean Lafitte and later hero of the Battle of New Orleans, was once imprisoned. Tails of the pirate hangouts and secret meetings have long been associated with this alley while many duels where settled in St. Anthony's Garden located directly behind the cathedral.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
