Louisiana Audubon Spoonbill

from $110.00

Roseate Spoonbills get their pink coloration from the foods they eat. Crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates contain pigments called carotenoids that help turn their feathers pink. Their beaks are specially adapted to scoop small critters, like frogs, small fish, insects, and crustaceans, out of the water.

FUN FACT: They sleep while standing on one leg with the head tucked under the back feathers. No wonder they’re nicknamed Cajun Flamingos.

ABOUT the FINE ART GICLEE: Produced from my original artwork and they are printed on high-quality archival canvas using archival inks, stretched over a .75” or 1.5” wood frame with the print image wrapping around edge of canvas and are ready to hang using the mounted picture wire. (The 1.5” depth canvas works best for hanging without framing.) The giclee is signed on the front in silver, titled/labeled/signed on the back and comes with a signed letter of authenticity should it ever need appraisal.

CUSTOM FRAMING: Handmade floating frames created using reclaimed wood. Frames add an additional 3 inches to the overall width and height of giclee.

PROCESSING TIME & SHIPPING: Giclees are made to order and are ready to ship in 1-2 weeks within the U.S.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
