Actively bold in its pursuit, regardless the obstacle, the great heron waits patiently for just the right moment to act. Great herons are expert fishers and hunters snaring their aquatic prey by walking slowly, or standing still for long periods of time waiting for fish to come within range of their long necks and blade like bills. Commonly found along the coastal areas of Louisiana wading in the shallow waters of its wetlands, marches and bayous they are easily recognized by their stately size and display of blue grey plumage. South Louisiana is breathtaking and we are all blessed to live surrounded by its beauty.
