Draped In Acadian

from $15.00

Streets draped in Cajun pride, as far as the eye can see, that’s the Acadian greeting granted to all who take a stroll down a residential street of downtown Lafayette. Front porches dawning Acadian flags flank both sides of the street, welcome all who pass, setting the tone for a community who’s colors and traditions run deep in their hearts.

The Flag of Acadian (Cajun) region was created in 1965 by Thomas Arceneaux, the dean of what is now the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. Derived from the university’s seal. The French heritage of Acadiana is represented by the three silver fleur-de-lis on a field of blue. A tribute to Spain can be found with the golden castle on a field of red. Our Lady of Assumption, patron saint of Acadians is represented by the field of white and the star symbolize the participation of the Cajuns in the American Revolution.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
