Spanish cannons, from the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, stand at silent guard over St. Louis Cathedral, from the corners of the wrought iron gated gardens of Jackson Square. Tourist and locals alike all take pause to absorb the beauty of Jackson Square daily and this piece captures this location in a way that your mind can wander from the 1800's to present day. I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
